Timeline for Enrollment and Completion

PY1 Year
  • Fall, Spring and Summer – students interested in RASP are encouraged to explore research opportunities through communication with UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy faculty, and volunteer to initiate work on a research project with a faculty member

PY2 year

  • Fall – students interested in RASP inform the program directors (via the School’s elective interest survey), receive a summary of available project opportunities, meet with faculty to discuss project opportunities, and then request to enroll in the RASP pathway by providing a rank-ordered list of projects they wish to pursue. Students that have already initiated work on a research project are encouraged to continue work on that project. Students will be connected with a faculty mentor, enter the RASP pathway, and initiate work on their project.
  • Spring – students work on their project under the guidance of their faculty mentor, write a project proposal, and complete Research and Scholarship in Pharmacy 1 (PHCY 624, 1.5 credits)
  • Summer – students are encouraged to use their PY2 summer practicum experience to extend work on their project
PY3 year
  • Fall – students continue work on their project under the guidance of their faculty mentor, revise their written project proposal & deliver a project proposal to their peers, and complete Research and Scholarship in Pharmacy 2 (PHCY 725, 1.5 credits)
  • Spring – students continue work on their project under the guidance of their faculty mentor, write a project report in the form of a manuscript & deliver an oral poster presentation describing their work, and complete Research and Scholarship in Pharmacy 3 (PHCY 726, 3.0 credits)

PY4 year

  • Fall and Spring – in collaboration with their faculty mentor and project team, students advance and complete work on their project and are encouraged to present their work at a national meeting and/or pursue publication in peer-reviewed journal
  • Spring – students complete the program requirements and graduate with Honors

 

 

Eligibility

In order to enroll in the RASP pathway, students must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Professional Year 2 (PY2) student in the PharmD program in good academic standing
  • Cumulative PharmD program GPA ≥ 3.3
  • Confirmation that a faculty mentor has a scholarly project and is willing to support the student
  • Willingness to adhere to the RASP Expectations of Students
